Personalized Pain Management for Dogs and Cats in Indianapolis
Pain can change how a pet moves, rests, plays, and interacts with the people around them. At Velocity Vet, we take a thoughtful, individualized approach to pet pain management for dogs and cats experiencing acute discomfort, chronic joint pain, age-related mobility changes, or pain associated with injury, surgery, or progressive disease.
Our goal is not simply to mask discomfort. We look at how pain affects the whole patient, including movement, strength, daily function, and quality of life. From there, we build a plan around the pet’s condition, needs, and response to treatment.
A Multimodal Approach to Comfort
Pain management often works best when several therapies support one another. Depending on the patient, a care plan may combine medication guidance, joint injections, rehabilitation, therapeutic exercise, and other targeted treatments.
Because Velocity Vet is a rehabilitation-focused practice, we can also evaluate how pain influences gait, posture, activity, and muscle use. This helps us make practical adjustments as the patient progresses.
Joint Injections
Joint injections place treatment directly into an affected joint. They may be considered for pets with certain orthopedic conditions, arthritis, or ongoing joint discomfort when a targeted approach is appropriate.
Velocity Vet offers several joint-injection options:
Polyacrylamide Hydrogel
Polyacrylamide hydrogel, including Arthramid, is an injectable material used within certain joints. It may be incorporated into a broader pain-management plan for selected patients with joint disease.
Platelet-Rich Plasma
Platelet-rich plasma, commonly called PRP, is prepared from a patient’s own blood. The sample is processed to concentrate platelets before being placed into the treatment area.
PRP may be considered for certain joint, tendon, or ligament concerns as part of a wider plan that also addresses movement, strength, and activity.
Stem Cell Therapy
Stem cell therapy uses cells obtained from the patient and prepared for therapeutic use. Depending on the condition, it may be considered for selected orthopedic or degenerative joint problems.
Our team will discuss whether a regenerative option is appropriate for your pet and how it may fit alongside rehabilitation or other pain-management strategies.
Medication and Supplement Counseling
Medications and supplements can play an important role in managing both short-term and ongoing discomfort. However, every pet has different medical needs, tolerances, and risk factors.
Velocity Vet provides medication and supplement counseling based on the individual patient. We’ll help families understand the role of each recommendation and how it fits into the larger care plan. We may also adjust the approach over time based on comfort, mobility, and response.
Palliative and End-of-Life Support
For pets living with advanced disease or significant mobility challenges, the focus may shift from recovery to comfort. Palliative care is designed to support quality of life by addressing pain, mobility, daily routines, and the pet’s ability to enjoy meaningful activities.
These conversations can be difficult, and families deserve clear, compassionate guidance. We’ll work with you to evaluate your pet’s comfort and changing needs while helping you make informed decisions about ongoing care.
Supporting Better Days
Pain management is rarely one-size-fits-all. Some pets benefit from joint injections, while others need medication guidance, pet rehabilitation, or a combination of approaches.
At Velocity Vet, we’ll continue to reassess the plan as your pet changes. The goal is to protect comfort, preserve movement where possible, and help your pet enjoy more good days.
